In

What were once places of worship and spiritual retreat continue, in
modern times, to provide the body with rest and the soul with peace. Located in a valley in Arraiolos - a town that is known throughout the world for its carpets - is the Pousada, an example of perfect harmony between the traditional and modern concepts of Portuguese architecture and a pleasant example of the adaptation of the austerity of a sixteenth century convent to modern comfort demands. Further inland is the town of Crato. The mystique of the old medieval monastery of the Order of Malta is felt everywhere. The Pousada Flor da Rosa has been able to promote the most genuine characteristics of the monument and highlight them through architectural works that, even though modern in style, were able to fully respect the origins of the building. Close by, at the Real Convento das Chagas de Cristo, in Vila Viçosa, the Pousada D. João IV was built. This Pousada, distinguished by its themed labyrinth-like rooms inspired by legends and tales, has fully renovated the successive and superimposed construction of cells, retreats and prayer rooms that have been built over time by those inhabiting the convent.
